Too Fat To Graduate?

America’s health organizations and institutions are all trying their damnedest to combat the nation’s obesity problem. But it seems one university is taking things a little too far – at least that’s the word from its students and professors.
Lincoln University is compelling all its undergraduates to take a physical exam to determine their body mass index before they will be allowed to graduate. Students whose BMI is over 30 will then be forced to take an additional physical education class before they will be allowed to don their gowns.
According to The Lincolnian, the university’s newspaper, the campus is in an uproar over the new requirements, saying the institution is discriminating against obese students. The university’s administration, on the other hand, says it is only trying to educate its student body before they leave its halls for the working world.
“It’s not up to Lincoln to tell me how much my BMI should be,” sophomore Lousie Kaddie tells the student newspaper. “I came here to get a degree and that’s what the administration should be concerned with.”
Dr. Yvonne Hilton, a professor in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation department, agrees.
“I don’t necessarily agree with the BMI being a requirement,” said told The Lincolnian. “It is understood that obesity in America is growing fast, but maybe there should have been a different approach in informing the students about their health and building their awareness.”
Because Lincoln is a private university, it is well within its rights to impose the new ruling. But is this really the way to go about advocating a healthy lifestyle to the nation’s youth?
Celeb Diet Doc…
What’s for lunch? The University would be better off promoting healthy low calorie dense meals and eliminating all soft drinks from campus. This would be a more constructive response to the obesity problem and help students understand how to effectively lose weight.

I just want to know how many students are going to go on crash diets and end up with health problems because of this. And, how many students prone to anorexia are going to think this is aimed at them and then their eating disorder problem will flare up again. I do not believe the officials at this university have thought through all the possible consequences of their new rule.

Well carissa I guess you are better than everyone else. Are you a health care professional? I hope not! I love how you use the word “fatties!” You have no right to make statements like that. You are a callous ignorant bitch!!! Believe it or not, some “fatties” have a hard time losing weight no matter what they do! So shut you mouth and go read something more on your educational level like the comics. And yes, in case you are wondering, I am a “fatty”, and I struggle to lose the weight everyday. It’s people like you and your insensitive comments that make life for us “fatties” unbearable. I would rather be in a room full of “fatties”, as you call them then around someone like you. Why don’t you do the “fatties” around the world a favor and blow your fucking head off!

This sounds a lot like the hate statements that I hear/read frequently. If a statement were made about homosexuals, blacks, Jews, etc., it would be illegal. Is this any less offensive?
