Victoria Secret’s Angel Goes Low Carb
On the heels of the latest Victoria Secret’s Lingere Fashion show in Miami we’re learning that the newest angel Doutzen Kroes has joined the ranks of the Victoria’s top models (Heidi Klum, Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Selita Ebanks) by going low carb.
The Dutch 23-year-old beauty Kroes, says she normally eats what she wants because she exercises often, but pulled out all the stops to earn her wings by going on a “strict sugar- and carb-free meal plan and spending many extra minutes a day jumping rope.” She adds “for other fashion shows you can be skinny, but for Victoria’s Secret, you need definition.”
Celeb Diet Doc Weigh In…
Be careful about anyone who says they can eat anything they want without gaining weight. Unless you’re an athlete burning a ton of calories a day, or have a metabolic disorder you do have to watch what you eat. And I’m sure Doutzen does pay a lot of attention to what she eats even when she’s not earning her wings…

A low carb diet is a sure way to gain more abdominal visceral fat through glycogen. If you want a flat tummy, you have to understand this complex concept. It is crucial, and I’m going to try to explain it:
Glycogen occurs whenever the liver breaks down fat to make glucose for the brain. Everyone needs glucose including diabetics, and the brain constantly needs glucose 24/7. In a normal person, glycogen takes place ONLY when one is not eating carbs, but as soon as one consumes a carb meal, glycogen is turned off. You don’t need that extra glucose, right?
Well, in a Type 1 or Type 2 diabetic, glycogen CONTINUES even after a carb meal because for whatever reason, the insulin (think of as a off/on switch) is unable to suppress glycogen. So they keep breaking down fats, and suddenly they’ve got all this EXTRA fat floating around in the system to make glucose. And of course, most of the fat end up in the abdominal region or in the liver. And this is the reason f Type 2 diabetics have fatty livers.
There are other reasons low carb is bad. A low carb, high protein diet, for example, is destined to damage the kidneys.
Every doctor wants to see the overweight and the obese lose weight to decrease the risks for heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes. Yet, none of these crusading doctors are providing dieters any risk guidance or any info on weight loss physiology. I feel that the more dieters understand about their bodies, the more likely they are going to avoid fad diets. For instance, there is a fad diet called fatlossfordummy diet, which is all about calorie shifting. With the knowledge that I have now, I will not go for this diet. Calorie shifting will spike up metabolism every so many days, but the body does not like radical heat changes. So how much cellular or tissue damage will this fad diet incur in the long run? No one knows, and anyone on this diet is just playing “roulette”.

JC doesn’t know what he’s talking about. A low carb diet will BURN body fat, also known as glycogen.
I have read two articles that said eating trans fats, also known as hydrogenated fats, will pack on belly fat that’s tough to get rid of. Trans fats are artificial. The natural, saturated fats are good for your health.
Trans fats are especially bad for pregnant women and children. Doctor Mary Enig,, a lipid researcher, suggested they’re contributing to this huge problem of so many children having allergies and attention deficit disorder. (Allergies and ADD are nothing new, but this massive increase in children with these health problems is new.)
Everybody has a diet. What you eat IS your diet. So if you say – I’m going on a diet to lose weight – you’re setting yourself up for failure.
Carbs and sugar get digested quickly, so you’re hungry again, so you eat more, so you gain more weight.
Another useful thing to know – saturated fats are good for you! Grass fed meat is the best! There are two helpful books by Anthony Calpo and Mathew Kendrick. It’s a little confusing that both books have the same title – The Great Cholesterol Con.
A splendid book for learning about the low carb lifestyle is – How I Gave Up My Low-Fat Diet And Lost 40 Pounds, And How You Can Too, by Dana Carpender.
The low fat diet is the fad diet. Eating bagels, toast, potatoes and sugary junk food is the fastest way to pack on the pounds. What do sumo wrestlers eat to get fat? They eat a lot of starchy foods.
Good health and happiness to you, Anthony
