Weight-Loss Nutrient: Fiber

Did you know that you can lose weight without dieting? A new study has found that by introducing more fiber to your regular eating plan you could lose weight without really trying.

Utah researchers at Brigham Young University tested two groups of women, increasing the fiber intake of one group by 8 grams for every 1 000 calories and using the second group as the control. It was found that the first group lost 4-and-a-half pounds over the course of the study.

Fiber helps you feel full, and as an added bonus, it has no calories. By eating more fiber you leave less room in your stomach for “less-healthy” foods.

EatingWell magazine suggests high-fiber recipes like Tex-Mex Taco Salad, Mustard Greens and Bulgur, Middle Eastern Lamb Stew, Pear and Blue Cheese Flatbread and Miso Chicken Stir-Fry that will help you fill your stomach and lose weight in the process too.

These studies tend to confuse people because it perpetuates the myth that weight loss is all about carbs, fat, protein of fiber. It’s really none of the above. Just get more fruits and veggies (which contain a lot of fiber btw) and you’ll lose more weight. Case closed.

    Food high in fiber takes time to chew so it helps with people with their eating habits.

    It stays in the tummy longer that’s why you have the sensation of fullness. It also helps the digestive system overall.

    A lot of people eat pasta. Switching to a whole-wheat spaghetti will provide 1/3 of your daily fiber requirement for most women. Add some broccoli and apple (with skin) for dessert and you have a healthy high fiber diet.

    I never knew that I was actually getting enough fiber and am so pleased that I am and how beneficial this is for our bodies! All our family eats is whole wheat as I have banned processed enriched junk! We just try to stay away from it as best we can. We also all take our daily Vidazorb chewable probiotic which really helps with so many things like weight, digestion etc! Thanks for the fiber info!

    I have to agree with you on this one. You have to add plenty of fiber to your diet if you want to control your eating habits.
